In what is, quite frankly, a rather stupid write-up, TV Guide predicts Marion will take the Oscar "by a hair."
BEST ACTRESSIs this award going back to Europe again? Helen Mirren took the trophy across the Atlantic last year, and now the front-runners are England's Julie Christie and France's Marion Cotillard. But might voters be tired of shipping Oscars overseas and reward Ellen Page, the fresh-faced Canadian of surprise hit "Juno"? Probably not. When it comes to best actress, the Academy likes heavy, not light. The early favorite, Cotillard, inhabits singer Edith Piaf in the kind of raging, larger-than-life performance voters love. But the radiant Christie has been picking up momentum since winning the SAG award for her heartbreaking portrayal of a woman slipping into dementia. This Oscar will definitely be living in Europe by month's end -- probably France, by a hair.

Again , theses people make me mad , they really have something against her , they just cant speak of her in a positive manner, they really suck!
A couple of things:
First: What's the "us" v. Europe undercurrent? Odd.
And who exactly is "us"? Page is Canadian, after all. So I guess it's a New World v. Old World crap. Whatever.
Second: Christie has been the early favorite, not Cotillard. And Cotillard is the one who's been picking up steam since her "surprise" Golden Globe triumph.
Third: I thought Christie lived in L.A. (though she may move between the UK and California, not sure).
Point being, why make it a "going back to Europe" thing? Such backwards thinking.
OK, I'm in a pissy mood so I'll stop now ;)
At least they predicted Marion, even if only by a hair.
MARION TO WIN!
OK Lucio, you are welcome.
Why can't they accept the fact that the award should goes to the PERSON who has the best performance, nothing to do with where he or she happen to be from.... " Moron TV Guide"
pardon my language!
Dorothy thats what I was thinking allso why cant they think of actors as an all instead of European actors , American Actors...
Well anyway it's TV guide...lol its not great literature either.
European actors, american actors....of course this is a bit silly because the future will belong to movies with international mixed castings like "public enemies".
I mean with actors who can attract moviegoers all around the world.
The only thing that will remain true is that those movies will have to be shot in english.
By the way, Michael Mann is asking our girl to ERASE her french accent completely, because her character (Billie Frechette) must sound american.
That is going to be a hell of a job.
I think Marion Cotillard deserves to win. She gaves the years best performance, and it makes no difference where she comes from or whatever, if the Academy pick the best performer to take home the Oscar, it will be Marion, through and through.
Like us, I think and really hope that Marion will win. It would be deserved.
Yes. These reasons are all why I have dubbed it a "stupid write-up."
Very poor, ridiculous rationalization.
Yep, "anonymous". Quite daunting this word "erase" her French accent completely. Good luck with that. But if she wants, she can. I hope she'll refind it from time to time though...lol
With language coach she will do just fine, I'm rather like her French accent, cute!
Xenophobia still influences, more's the pity. That's why Obama is ahead in the US presidential race at the moment; he wants to delete all this nonsense. But for us, looking at the Oscar race, the problem is two-fold. One: How many ballots were mailed early, and Two: How political will the choices be? In any case, great art remains, and less-than-great art doesn't, awards aside. Enjoy, Marion!
