MIJ talks to Marion after LVeR screening

At a recent screening of La Vie en Rose for the California Film Institute, Paul Liberatore of the Marin Independent Journal talked to Marion about the film and Piaf.

Marion Cotillard, whose transcendent portrayal of the tragic French chanteuse Edith Piaf in "La Vie en Rose" earned her an Oscar nomination for best actress, made a hastily arranged appearance in Marin this week, charming an adoring audience at the Christopher B. Smith Rafael Film Center.

Quick update

Happy New Year, all! Here are just a few little bullets:

The Austin Chronicle has given Marion Cotillard a spot on their Acting Kudos list. Three women and three men are picked annually:

ACTING KUDOS (MALE): Daniel Day-Lewis (There Will Be Blood), Kurt Russell (Grindhouse, "Death Proof"), Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men)

ACTING KUDOS (FEMALE): Marion Cotillard (La Vie en Rose), Adrienne Shelly (Waitress), Samantha Morton (Control)

Variety has an interesting article/interview with La Vie en Rose cinematographer Tetsuo Nagata, where they talk about the challenges behind the shot of Piaf's breakdown after she learns of Marcel's plane crash. The scene was done all in one cut, and each time the camera panned around the crew had to hide all the equipment. Says Nagata:

"I don't think it was perfect, but Marion's performance was so amazing that nobody noticed."

Also, if you attend San Juan College, you can catch a screening of La Vie en Rose tomorrow. Details here.

Screening

If you live in Los Angeles, CA, you are one lucky person! Back Stage has announced the following:

Back Stage and The Hollywood Reporter invite you to join actor Marion Cotillard for a screening of La Vie en Rose on Sunday, Oct. 21, in Los Angeles.

And it gets better...

The event will include a screening, followed by a Q&A with Cotillard. Sarah Kuhn, Back Stage West's film and TV writer, will moderate.

The event will take place on October 21, at 8 p.m., at Harmony Gold Theatre, 7655 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles.

"Admission is free. To RSVP, call (310) 967-3461. Seating is limited. Please arrive early." Source

Color me jealous :) Hopefully a similar screening will take place in New York City (hint, hint!).
