Serendipity

This is such a beautiful image. Sigh, remember?.

From the AP:

OSCAR SHOCK: As Marion Cotillard stepped offstage with the best-actress Oscar for "La Vie En Rose," Forest Whitaker enveloped her in a hug that lasted at least a minute. Then they looked at each other and laughed. "I'm shaking, like wow," Cotillard trembled. Stopping by the backstage "thank you" cam, she expressed her gratitude in French and studied her Oscar. "I'm shaking so much I think I can't talk," she said. Whitaker led her arm-in-arm behind the stage on the winner's walk. "This is huge, this is huge," she gushed as backstage workers applauded. At a stop for a makeup touch up she tried to breathe deeply. "This is crazy, this is totally crazy. Ooh la la la la! It's totally surreal," she said.

how cute ! I guess she had too many emotions in one night...

amazing interview of Marion and Guillaume Canet (in english, lucky you) back in 2003-2004 when they were promoting "Jeux d'Enfants" (love me if you dare). This is so funny ! And they were not a couple yet, Guillaume was still married to Diane Kruger. It's really worth a look !

She also said that it was weird speaking about herself for 1 year and a half to the point that she's fed up of doing so and kind of "campaining" for the movie, because it's rare to have to do that in France... But that it was worth it, because of the people she's met, the fairytale she's lived etc... So cute.

Here is another moving picture in the same mould taken from their profile...Heart-wrenching. I can't help tearing when watching those backstage hug pictures with Forest...

A dream come true. She's made history. =']

Wonderful. There's such a sense of warmth and closure in that photo, and in the whole state of mind of Cotillard fans now. Thank you so much for this site Dorothy, K, everyone involved in this wonderful site - who did such a great job in keeping it informative, compact, pretty and exciting (!) for this whole journey. After 3 hours sleep last night I went in for a german exam, during which I was grinning from ear to ear and probably writing French. I didn't care. Her win went beyond my wildest expectations of what could be embraced and celebrated on this scale. It was perfect.

C’est fantastique! I love this blog and how you had the “tracking her inevitable path to Oscar glory”. It’s like you knew all along! Once she won the BAFTA with her gorgeous shocked speech, things were starting to look good, even if many still insisted that Christie would win it since she had the SAG and the Broadcast Critics Award, as if somehow a pattern is set in stone with just a decade of available data.

I watched it live and was shocked it was up so early, I thought that was always at the end along with actor and picture, so I hardly had any time to prepare and got so nervous, but she did it! Yay! I had an inkling that she might do it after Ben Lyons on the E! channel said she was the lock, but still a great surprise. I actually wasn’t too surprised Swinton won it after the BAFTA, that could have really went any way, glad it wasn’t Ruby Dee at least. Javier Bardem is unbelievably gorgeous, loved his speech and how he broke into Spanish – I thought Marion might do a little French as well, haha.

This at least goes to show that the Oscars aren’t xenophobic and American-biased as it is often criticised and are truly a world award show. If you look at the results table on Wikipedia, you’ll see it’s spread out a lot more evenly amongst different nationalities than you’d think. But if Marion didn’t get this, it was clear that no non-English language performance ever would. So deserved, this is their best decision ever. This blog has been great to check in to every day to keep up with all the latest Marion news, so thank you for your great work, she did it!
