George Clooney on Marion

In an interview with TIME Magazine, George Clooney had the following to say about Marion's performance:

The actor was also impressed by La Vie En Rose's Marion Cotillard. "[She] does an old person trying to be young, instead of what everyone does – a young person trying to be old," he says. "It's a stunning performance."

i don't understand him. If he was so impressed why does he choose julie christie for winning best actress?

Same here, amely. Strange. If that's the best performance of the year, why not vote for her? Unless he saw "La Vie en Rose" after casting his vote. OR perhaps he wants to have it both ways (no pun intended).

Nothing at that link says he VOTED for Christie -- just that he picked her for his Oscar Pool. The odds are in Christie's favor at the moment, it's a smart betting move.

So I read the article in the original link you posted and I think you're right, k. He doesn't even *mention* Christie in the write-up, so it doesn't make sense that he voted for her. Anyway, he scored some nice cool points with the blurb; and his take on the character (playing someone old trying to be young) was pretty deep. I guess I have no option but to check out the performance yet again to make sure ;)

i understood the same thing, but so easy to say someone deserves it and pick another as winner. I hope tomorrow for the cesar people voted for the right one...
but don't be so sure in France with the cesars, when an actor is really sure to win, people like to vote for an outsider. And always the same actors are nominated, even if their film is not so great.
I wanted to post the video of marion's win in 2005 but didn't find it. So at least, her last interview http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/search/cotillard/video/x4f38h_marion-cotillard-dans-exterieur-jou_fun.

Mmmm strange thing about the Cesar's, I have had quite a lot of people say, to me, in the past few days, that she may not win.

That interview with Marion isn't terribly flattering. She keeps repeating herself, and behaving kind of oddly. The interviewer is being a bit silly with her questions though.

I agree. My gut feeling is she won't win the Cesar. Not sure why, though I'm sure it's partly due to that old adage of never being a hero in your own country (see Julie Christie at the BAFTAs). If she wins, though, that'd be pretty awesome.

Slight embarrassment if they don't give it to her though. It was am amazing performance. In Britain there isn't always as much patriotism as people like to think. They didn’t give Rachel Weisz the Bafta, the year she won the Oscar. In fact the Brits are the expert‘s at not letting people 'be a hero on their own turf'. I know the other nominees gave great performances but Marion's really was one of the most incredible I have ever seen. I doubt she will ever have such a role again. I am slightly worried about all the doubts though. I wonder whether she will even go.

Like before the Bafta's?

i'm sure she'll be there tonight, she can't miss that!! For the interview, she was exhausted, back from london and her BAFTA, and i think she has a lot of champagne before... For the record, the haughty journalist (daphné roulier)is and the wife of tonight master of ceremony, antoine de caunes (ex-father in law of marion ex boyfriend Sinclair)...
some Cesar's pronostics http://cesar2008.blog.canal-plus.com/index.html : marion winner!

i hope you know how to watch the ceremony and have infos for tonight...

That would make her Emma's stepmother right? The interview was fine, just slightly odd. No, I don't know how to watch it, can you see it on the internet.

No, I mean actual deja vu!

I dreamed this sequence of comments like, two years ago. How weird is that?

Dorothy Porker said...

I believe it -- it happens to me all the time. Creepy.

So can we watch the Cesars online? Also, roughly at what time would it take place (US EST)?

That is really quite strange, in a good way, though. I love stories like that.

really weird indeed!
yes, daphné is emma stepmother.

for the ceremony, on canal+ tv of course, and i think updates on their website (even if they say "vivez les cesars en direct" i'm not sure it will be live here too, but try) http://www.canalplus.fr/
and then, around 20h in every tv news.
I can update for the blog if you want.

for your information, now in Paris it's 01h16 in the morning (i really have to go to sleep!), tonight the red carpet begins at 19h10 and the ceremony around 21h. And they try to make it short and funny.

You really have to open a subject about the cesars lol

So I guess that would be around 4pm Eastern time. No their not very illuminating on the subject on their website.
