Cotillard to be Honored Tonight by Film Festival

As we previously reported, Marion will be one of the honorees at tonight's Palm Springs International Film Festival. Marion is being honored with the Breakthrough Performance Award:

Before her widely hailed role as tragic French chanteuse Edith Piaf in this year's "La Vie en Rose" - a depiction for which she will be receiving the festival's Breakthrough Performance Award - Cotillard had starred in nearly 50 TV shows and films (mostly in France), including Tim Burton's "Big Fish" in 2003, and "A Good Year" opposite Russell Crowe in 2006.

Other honorees include Halle Berry, Sean Penn, and Emile Hirsch (!)

As far as I know, this isn't a "struck" event, so all honorees are expected to attend. This is welcome news after the latest developments in the awards stratosphere (no actors are expected to attend either the Broadcast Film Critics -- originally scheduled to be aired on Monday night, or the Golden Globe Awards). We will keep you posted on the latest developments and, for what it's worth, wish the WGA the best of luck in their battle with AMPTA.

Very close !!

So Marion is back in LA, is she going to stay there until the Oscar ceremony ? Probably. And then go to NY for the shooting of "Nine" ? She is a lucky girl. And beautiful, look at her !

And i am glad to see Anamaria Marinca and 4 months, 3 weeks and 2 days receiving some kind of recognition, her performance in 4,3,2 was superb, better than Ellen Page's performance in Juno !

It sure was! The margin is pretty negligible, which gives me hope. Although Marion missed out on picking up the majority of the critics' awards, we'll see how she does with the non-critics (e.g. Golden Globes, SAG, Oscar!).

I doubt that she is in the USA until the Oscar's as she will also have to be at the Bafta's, in London, and the Cesar's next month. With all the award shows now being boycotted, she will only really have to go to two (SAG, and possibly the Oscar's, the GG look doubtful). It's a shame really, but that’s life I guess. She’s not filming at the moment so I guess it is easy to do all the travelling for the next 6 weeks.

Sorry I send my message too soon.

Oh and I forgot to say, I think Nine will probably pushed even further back, as the script isn't finished yet, and Zeta - Jones dropped out. I really hope it isn’t a causality of the strike, as I love musicals, and Sophia Loren is too irresistible to resist in such a film. Damn I wish I could get everything in one post, sorry.

No problem, poppy. And I agree about Sophia Loren wholeheartedly. I love serendipity, and having Loren co-star with Marion would be fantastic. I wonder who'll replace Zeta-Jones!

I don't know who will replace her; I don't much about the character, so don’t really know who should. The gossip is that she considered the part too small. I think all casting etc is pretty stagnate at the moment; they probably don't know where they are, no finished script, no definite filming dates, also the problem that the current actors who are signed up could all drop out if it clashes with other films that they would rather do. That and the actor’s strike that looms, but of a mess really. I am keeping my fingers crossed for it though.

I was at the Palm Springs International Film Fest and saw Miss Cotillard at the Awards Gala. She was so sweet. I posted some photos on my blog;
